We all understand that a principle is a fundamental law that governs functions and behavior. We must understand the basic laws of fatherhood in order to be effective fathers. The father (Ab and pater) is the source that sustains, protects, nourishes, and provides identity for that which he produces.

Do you know what the greatest challenge is for our young men today? They suffer from an identity crisis. They lack the nurturing influence of a true father to give them identity. An identity doesn’t come from a gang or the government or books. Identity comes from a father.

There’s something about a man that’s very interesting. A man needs to be affirmed by a father in order to confirm his manhood. The only one who can make you understand your manhood is your father. Most young men are running around looking for a father, but they can’t find him. They’re running to their brothers, but to no avail. You can’t find fatherhood in another peer who is also looking for a father. you cannot discover who you are by looking to someone who doesn’t know who he or she is. You’ve got to get your identity from a father. That’s why so many young men yearn to hear their father say to the, “I love you, Son. You’re a man now.”
