    “Hell no.” Curt Schilling takes on his daughter haters:

    I look at it like this. If someone walked into your house and punched your daughter square in the face, what would your reaction be? You and I probably are thinking the very same thing. How is that different than what happened to my amazing Daughter?

    Here’s how.

    Those bruises on your daughters face? They’ll heal over time and go away. My daughter? She was bruised and battered every bit as bad as that punch. Her scars are there forever.

    For you “men” trying to somehow side with these guys? Go for it. You don’t have far to go in life, in fact you may already be at your finish line.

    Ladies? I don’t care if you’re 7 or 70. There is no time, no place, no reason in your lives ever that anyone, most especially a man, is allowed to talk to you, or treat you, this way.   99.9% of the tools that continue to rant didn’t even read the article, and they most assuredly didn’t click on the links.

    Young women, and men, are KILLING themselves after being cyber-bullied.

    You have a son, daughter, sister or brother? Niece, nephew, cousin? One that you would go to the ends of the earth for? Think about it for a second. Phone rings and that person has died, hung themselves because they were bullied. How are you doing? What’s your reaction?

    Let me be very clear again. I have no issues with people ragging other people. It’s been a part of my life for 40 some years. Ask an athlete, soldier, fireman, policeman, locker rooms might be the most uncivil places on the planet. We say things to each other in there no one else is allowed to say to us. It’s how you express your love to your teammates/co-workers/brothers in arms. I am just about 100% sure no one, and nothing, in that environment brings that outside, and for good reason.

    INSTAPUNDIT on The Golden Quarter:

    Some of our greatest cultural and technological achievements took place between 1945 and 1971. Why has progress stalled? The Greens and the Luddites got power, just as Nixon initiated the Regulatory Explosion that brought us OSHA, EPA, and various new regulatory regimes, even as money was being diverted to transfer payments to people who didn’t produce anything except votes — from funding the X-15 to funding Section 8. Not a formula for progress.

    From the comments: “Well, since most technological and social advances listed in that piece were brought about by white males, and we’ve spent the last 30+ years denigrating and minimizing the impact of white males in society, golly, who could be surprised at the results?”

    WAPO on Back Burners: “Backup” husbands and wives, emotional affairs, and the rise of digital infidelity. No doubt that this is a huge issue for couples today, so much so that any marriage books written today that ignore it should themselves be ignored.

    A couple quick thoughts.

    Coach John Wooden is quoted as saying “The best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.” I would encourage all you guys out there to lead by example by totally honoring your wife in your digital life too.

    If you and your spouse don’t at least offer your account passwords to one another in the interest of transparency, there’s an issue. Be the one to initiate it by giving her yours if you haven’t taken that step. Tell her it’s because you want her to know she’s the only one in your life. Don’t be surprised if that kindles a fire in your evening together. If she takes you up on it, thinks an old flame being is a potential Back Burner girl, end it on the spot. Send her a note, then block her. She’s not worth it. Your wife definitely is. If you need more motivation, think about that guy who will be raising your kids after the divorce.

    If either of you have social media accounts that the other doesn’t know about, it’s an even bigger issue. Actually, a bright red flashing light. Confess it, and get some help. Remember what the Proverb says:  And to him who lacks sense she says, “Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of the Pit.

    Finally, turn the gadgets off during family time and dinner. Be creative and gracious – give everybody 30 seconds to check last minute emails and tweets, then throw them into a basket on the kitchen counter.

    Our kids are the so-called connected generation.

    Show them how to connect, old-school.

    It’s a brave new world, guys. If you don’t take the lead in your home’s digital life, chances are there’s some guy waiting in the digital wings who will.

    My Journey to a Genesis: Why I Created a Mobile Tool That Helps All Dads With Custody

    It was a day after court when I decided to build something. This something would help me keep better visitation records so if I ever needed them, I had them. The concept was born after seeing that another system cost $100 per year per parent, designed for desktop computers. I needed something that was simple, practical, and mobile-focused. I wanted a system that kept my notes, and auto-communicated certain activities, like a transfer in custody. Most of all, I wanted a system that was free-to-use, and universally available to as many people as possible, while being in the best interest of the child. The system was not to be designed around parents. Even in my own experience, there are many people who are raising children at times that are not mom and dad. I wanted something for everyone, not just me.

    This is going to help a lot of folks.

    Jon Vaughn’s got a F/B blog too – drop by and say howdy, won’t you?

    When men’s health doesn’t count

    When Congress formed the Office on Women’s Health in 1991, its goal was to improve women’s health by directing and coordinating women’s health research, health care services, and health education. Since then men’s health advocates have been trying to create an Office of Men’s Health, with the goal of duplicating the OWH’s success. Yet while a new bill which will help to make the OWH’s funding permanent was just passed by the House, the Men’s Health Act of 2001 (H.R. 632) remains trapped in the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s subcommittee on health. If not rescued soon, the bill will die when the 107th Congress adjourns this fall.

    The State is becoming the husband and father of choice.

    UPDATE: The linked article was early 2014, but the Men’s Health Act bill stalled in committee over 10 years ago. So, maybe it’s time to revive it?

    The life-cycle of democracies:

    From bondage to spiritual faith;
    From spiritual faith to great courage;
    From courage to liberty;
    From liberty to abundance;
    From abundance to complacency;
    From complacency to apathy;
    From apathy to dependence;
    From dependence back into bondage.

    Go read the whole thing. Then consider where we’re at, and what Good Men should do about it.

    NHS to fund sperm bank for lesbians: A new generation of fatherless families

    Heterosexual couples will also be able to benefit, but the move – funded by the Department of Health – is largely designed to meet the increasing demand from thousands of women who want to start a family without having a relationship with a man. Critics last night called it a ‘dangerous social experiment’ that could result in hundreds of fatherless ‘designer families’. The former Bishop of Rochester, Michael Nazir-Ali, said last night: ‘It is the welfare of the child that must come first and not the fact that people want a particular kind of baby.’

    Bishop Michael, who once chaired the ethics committee of Britain’s fertility watchdog, added: ‘This is social experimentation. It’s one thing for a child not to have a mother or father through tragedy, but it is another to plan children to come into the world without a father.’

    More:

    Ms Witjens rejected suggestions that children suffer adverse consequences from lacking a father figure. ‘There is no evidence to suggest that children are better off with or without a father,’ she said.

    Hey, Ms. Witjens – Google much? Makes me wonder how she got along with her dad…

    So “safe sex” now means “only with a camera running“?

    Meh. Stealth video has its risks too. Maybe just a quick, private video clip BEFORE you get down to bidniss to document your mutual consent, though hot and monogamous is still the best protection against this sort of thing.

    UPDATE: From the comments: “That could also be a bad thing. Easily take some photos and find out if your wife cheated on you? Ouch!” Is that a bug or a feature?
